Cargo ships

The changes that took place in Patagonia at the beginning of the 20th century were incredible.

A vast expanse of land was set aside for sheep farming. Large quantities of this material were then shipped to customers around the world.

The photo shows the cargo ship “San Juan Bosco” in Patagonia (1951) loading bales of wool.
It belonged to the Pérez Companc shipping company. This company was founded following the acquisition in the United States of four “LST” or “landing” ships equipped with a bow ramp. After arriving from the United States, these ships underwent major modifications in the company’s own shipyards to reinforce them so they could beach on the shores of Patagonia and operate via the bow ramp.

These cargo ships were in constant operation in the ports of Patagonia for decades.
